Paradise for hikers

A paradise for mountaineers

Hiking enthusiasts are truly spoilt for choice in Nassfeld, a region with so many paths and trails that it is impossible to explore them all during just one holiday. Attractions include themed hiking routes, geotrails, long-distance walks, summit ascents, circular hikes, rock climbing and walks over the border into neighbouring Italy. Nassfeld's location between mighty peaks and glistening lakes makes it the ideal starting point for exploring the network of over 1000 km of hiking trails in the sunny south of Carinthia.

A fascinating natural landscpe

A major part of Carinthia's popularity as a hiking destination is the hugely diverse geology to be found in the region. Lush green meadows contrast with rocky peaks, wide valleys and sparkling lakes. Two major Alpine chains, the Gailtal Alps and the Carnic Alps, run across Nassfeld and are both easily accessible on foot or by bike. The region's proximity to the famous Dolomites is also reflected in the landscape, which attracts many pilgrims, long-distance hikers, climbers, walkers and mountaineers. A number of hikes last several days and include overnight stays in Alpine huts.

Cycling

Journeys of discovery on two wheels

Bike rides are a great way to explore Nassfeld and get to know the flora and fauna that make this region so special. A comprehensive network of trails and cycle paths measuring 950 km makes it easy to get around and experience the natural beauty that the province of Carinthia in the south of Austria has to offer.

Alpine adventures for everyone

Cycling in the south-west of Carinthia has much to offer riders of all abilities, whether alone, with friends or as a family. There are many flat rides along the banks of the Gail river, around the local lakes and even as far as Villach. Trains are available for the return journey until Hermagor.

Tip! Visitors can hire an e-bike and let the chain take the strain!

Lifts & cable cars in Nassfeld

Take the easy way into the mountains!

The modern cable cars and lifts in Nassfeld mean that it could not be easier to travel into the Carnic Alps during the warm summer months. Holidaymakers and daytrippers can use the Millennium Express cable car, the Gartnerkofel and the Madritschen chairlift to travel up into the mountains and look down on Carinthia's beautiful lakes and valleys from above as they breathe in the fresh air. Those wishing to embark on a trip to Italy can take the cable car up and walk just a few kilometres over the border to the village of Pontebba.

Mountaincoaster "Pendolino"

High-speed fun for children and adults

A ride on the Pendolino, the longest mountaincoaster in Carinthia, is a memorable experience for all the family.

The 2 km rollercoaster descends 400 vertical metres on its way down from the top of the cable car to the Tressdorfer Alm. Each of the coaster cars is fitted with a brake, meaning that riders can control their speed at all times. A great activity that children and adults will love!

Kids of the age 7 can ride the mountaincoaster alone.
